The I-Opener
The I-Opener has a computer released in 1999 with the sole purpose of going online. It's a internet appliance meaning it's a easy and cheap way of starting to use the web, it went for around 99$ an extreamly low amount for 1999, you see computers were very expensive back then, i mean im not saying that are way cheaper now (fuck ai), but if you wanted to start using the internet this was the way to go. For the specs, its a 86x pc with an 200 MHz WinPC processor, 32MB of RAM, 16 MB flash storage and 10" Matrix LCD screen. these specs were decent for the time, but because of that they were selling them at a loss, you see even low spec computers would go past 300$ in price, and so to combat that they made their own dial-up service. Even if the price was a little to low they could still make some profit out of it, until people discovered how to hack the hardware, you see the computer has locked behind its own operating system on which required Netpliance's own dial-up service to use, hackers discovered how to install Windows and Linux on it which could use any service, Netpliance started to report shortages and made the price of the computer higher, but then they decided to cancel orders if comsumers refused to pay a 499$ termination fee on which made consumers mad, and soon they were fined 100000$, and by 2002 Netpliance left the market. So yeah thats abaout it.
